MY LEARNINGS FROM THE MOVIE-
"The Finest Hours" offers several
valuable lessons that go beyond its dramatic depiction of a historic rescue
mission. Here are some of the key learnings from the movie:
1. Leadership -: The film illustrates how true
leadership isn't about holding a high rank, but rather about making critical
decisions under pressure and inspiring others to follow even when the odds seem
insurmountable. Bernie Webber and Ray both display qualities of
leadership, showing calm, decisiveness, and resourcefulness in the face of dire
circumstances.
2. Teamwork and Collaboration-: The success of the
rescue mission depended heavily on the ability of individuals to work together
under extremely stressful conditions. The movie highlights the importance of
teamwork, trust, and communication, demonstrating how collective efforts can
achieve what might seem impossible.
3. Innovation and Problem Solving-: Engineer Ray
ability to improvise solutions to keep the ship afloat as long as possible is a
testament to human ingenuity. His problem-solving skills provide a critical
lesson in using whatever tools and resources are available to navigate crises.
4. The Importance of Doing the Right Thing-:
Despite initial doubts and fears, Bernie decides to proceed with the rescue
mission, guided by a moral duty to save lives. The film underscores the
importance of ethical decision-making and doing what is right, even when it's
the harder path.
5. Understanding and Preparing for Risk-: The Coast
Guard crew knew the risks involved in their mission, yet they prepared and
executed their plan with precision. This teaches the value of preparation and
understanding the risks in any critical endeavor.
6. Emotional Strength and Support-: The film also
touches on the emotional aspects of dangerous jobs and the support systems that
individuals in such roles need. The relationships and emotional support from
the community and loved ones are depicted as foundational to enduring tough
times.
"The Finest Hours" provides not only a
gripping cinematic experience but also deep insights into the essence of human
strength and the principles of crisis management and leadership.
conclusions :-
By watching this movie I have understood that as a future seafarer ocean will not always be beautiful and calm for me. The volatile nature of the sea could be very peaceful at times but at the same time it can also be merciless and unforgiving as this movie shows the situation faced by the sailors which is life threatening. As a future officer I can totally relate what kind of fatal and dangerous catastrophe I will face in the sea . In such situation me being a future officer I should be capable of thinking efficiently and rationally as well as being calm at the same time like the coast guard Berny.
