 The Future Of Navigation

  • What is navigation?

Navigation is nothing but process or activity for  finding the safe and accurate path. Navigation on ship is always conducted on bridge. The field of navigation includes four general categories. They are land navigation, marine navigation, aeronautic navigation and space navigation

  • Current challenges in navigation:

Current challenges in navigation navigation is a milestone from a navigational perspective when it is used correctly, reducing the workload and increasing the situational awareness.

1.Wind war and weather

2.Distances

3.Charts and Sailing Directions

4.Instrument Accuracy

  • As digital navigation continues to evolve, traditional methods such as paper maps and compasses may become obsolete. While these tried-and-true tools have served us well throughout history, the rise of smart devices and innovative technologies presents an opportunity for more accurate, intuitive, and accessible navigation solutions.

  • BNWAS (Bridge Navigation Watch and Alarm System) is another important automated system used on ships. The mechanism emits a nasty sound every 3, 9 or 12 minutes until the necessary button is pressed.

  • This acoustic system is necessary on ships with a fully enclosed bridge. It allows the navigating officer inside the cabin to hear external signals of ships, coastal stations and other objects.

  • Augmented Reality in the maritime industry draws a graphical representation of the front view of a boat/vessel, on a screen by adding extra elements.
